Marilyn Brown

Commissioner: Marilyn Brown Marilyn A. Brown is the Interim Director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Engineering Science and Technology Division. Prior to coming to Oak Ridge, she was a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Brown has a Ph.D. in Geography from the Ohio State University, a Masters Degree in Resource Planning from the University of Massachusetts, and is a Certified Energy Manager.

During her 22 years at ORNL, Dr. Brown has researched the impacts of policies and programs aimed at accelerating the development and deployment of sustainable energy technologies. She has led several energy technology and policy scenario studies and is a national leader in the analysis and interpretation of energy futures in the United States. She has authored more than 140 publications and has been an expert witness in hearings before Committees of both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U. S. Senate. Dr. Brown serves on the boards of directors of the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy and the Alliance to Save Energy, and on the editorial boards of several journals.
